Scott Arthur Bishop was born January 26, 1965 in Bellingham Washington.
My interest in art started at an early age. In my drawings I found an infatuation with color
and its intensity. I found myself drawn to objects of bright and vivid shades, but not
discarding those shades less brilliant. In fact, finding them well suited as companion colors
to further accent the vibrant shades.
I graduated from Washington State University in 1988 with a B.A. In Business and
Economics. At the time I had no idea how useful that information would be in later years.
During my college years I took several advanced oil classes. Defining, experimenting
blending colors and themes to broaden my range and develop style. One professor of mine
told me not to take any more art classes as he was concerned the outside influence would
taint my unique style. I finished top of my class and that was the last art class I ever took.
In the years to follow I dabbled in various art medias. Watercolor, pencil, oils etc. but life in
the 90's never allowed me to apply myself full time to my work . I opened two fine art galleries
in the Northwest. My idea was to provide a showcase for up and coming artists. Something
simple yet with an emphasis on quality. Little did I know they would flourish to the current
standing they hold in the art community.
After nine years I again found myself void of the time necessary to continue my own
creations. Running the galleries absorbed all my spare time and then some. In June 2000 I
scaled down to one gallery, it's because of that decision, that I now have the time to focus on
my work.
In the last few years I have become stuck on pastels. I found this media to be my most
enjoyable. My technique is simple, I see what I like to create then I exaggerate its true colors
to make it part of my colorful world. Intensity commands attention, and my work will always
command intensity.
